SystemsProof: Architecture
MMORPG Server Emulator
High-concurrency Java game server with 30+ managers, custom protocol, and distributed architecture.
Note: Describe as a generic game server emulator. Do not reference specific game titles or use copyrighted assets.
The Challenge
Building a scalable game server that handles thousands of concurrent players with real-time state synchronization.
Constraints
- Sub-100ms response times for player actions
- Custom binary protocol for bandwidth efficiency
- Must handle disconnects and reconnects gracefully
Technical Decisions
- Java with Netty for non-blocking I/O and high-concurrency networking
- Custom binary protocol to minimize bandwidth and parsing overhead
- Manager-based architecture (30+) for separation of concerns and independent scaling
Highlights
- 30+ manager subsystems (world, inventory, combat, social, economy, etc.)
- Custom binary protocol with packet encryption and validation
- Thread-safe world state management with lock-free data structures where possible
- Dynamic spawning and despawning based on player proximity
- Distributed architecture for login, game, and chat servers
Results
- Handled high concurrent player counts with stable performance
- Clean manager separation enabled independent feature development
