The Challenge
Order management was scattered across spreadsheets and chat messages.
No consistent invoicing, no delivery zone logic, no audit trail.
Constraints
- Multi-tenant from day one -- multiple businesses on a single deployment
- Real-time updates needed for live order status
- Invoice sequencing must be legally compliant (no gaps)
Technical Decisions
- Prisma + PostgreSQL for type-safe multi-tenant data access with row-level scoping
- Socket.IO for real-time tenant-scoped events without polling overhead
- Strict state machine for orders -- clear transitions prevent invalid states
